The search will be nationwide, open to both internal and external candidates. Applications are due Sept. 14, 2018, and the board intends to name the finalist(s) by Oct. 15. The board is required by law to name the finalist(s) at least 14 days prior to making the official appointment of the new superintendent. The board has hired HYA Associates to help facilitate the human resources components of the search process. An external hiring firm helps ensure the integrity of the process. DPS is committed ensuring the greatest diversity of applicants and the greatest amount of procedural transparency.
As the national search process occurs, the board has emphasized the importance of seeking out community input on the experiences, qualities and qualifications the next superintendent should have. The district’s office of Public Affairs will lead the community engagement efforts. Meeting schedules and other opportunities to provide input can be found on the Community Engagement page. Follow us on social media for more information.
The ideal candidate is someone who aligns with Denver Public Schools’ shared core values, where we’ve been and what we hope to achieve. Additionally, the ideal candidate is someone who will be able to build upon the success already achieved toward Denver Plan 2020. See the narrative drafted by the Board of Education for more information. Throughout this process, the board will be engaged in a community outreach effort to inform the ideal characteristics and qualities of candidates.
In order to protect the privacy of applicants and to abide by privacy laws, DPS is obligated to keep the identities of applicants confidential. However, DPS will release information on the finalist(s). This information will include finalists’ applications (with sensitive information redacted), bios, qualifications and other relevant information.
